Students¡¯ Satisfaction on GNP Educational Program

Abstract
Purpose: This study was done to evaluate current students¡¯ satisfaction regarding their education programs to become gerontological nurse practitioners.

Methods: The study sample was comprised of 101 students or graduates of gerontological nurse practitioner master¡¯s program. Data were obtained by determining the extent to which the participants were satisfied with the curriculum, the clinical practicum and instructors, as well as self-capability as gerontological nursing care Advanced Practice Nurses. Data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0. Frequencies, percentages, and means with standard deviation were used to analyze the data.

Results: Regarding satisfaction with the curriculum, 47.0% of students of gerontological nurse practitioner education program were ¡°mostly satisfied¡± and 36.0% were ¡°satisfied¡± with the clinical practicum. Further, 35.0% of the participants regarded the hours (300) for the current clinical practice required for graduation as ¡°quite sufficient.¡± In addition, 44.0% of the participants indicated that their self-capability as gerontological nurse practitioners was ¡°satisfactory¡± and 34.0% reported that it was ¡°not satisfactory.¡±

Conclusion: Results indicate that less than 50% of the students were satisfied with various aspects of the course suggesting that gerontological nurse practitioner programs be further developed to ensure that individuals adequately fulfill their roles as gerontological nurses after graduation.
